Odds and ends at year end
I had a Disney nightmare last night. I dreamed that we were "doing the marathon." I kept asking aloud why the marathon was on Saturday...the half was supposed to be first! For some reason, we were wearing jeans instead of running clothes and we were walking instead of running. As we finished, we started grocery shopping -- and I started freaking out.
"Are we finished? Are you sure?" We got into the checkout line at the grocery store. I kept trying to count on my fingers how many hours the marathon had taken us.
"Are we going to get our Goofy? Did we do the marathon fast enough?" I kept counting, counting, counting, but I had to start over repeatedly.
"What time did it start? What time did we finish? I think it took us ten hours! We won't get our Goofy!"
Ack! I hate dreams like that!

I'm telecommuting today and before I started working I baked some High-Fiber Breakfast Cookies for breakfast. Yummy!

Another Disney note: we discovered, to our dismay, that there was a misunderstanding about the hotel and my Mom is not in the same resort we're in. Her resort is right next door, however, and with cell phones, we should all be peachy.
We were not able to extend the trip because all of the cool cheap deals for the resort we wanted were sold out.
Only eight more days! Woo hoo!!

Year end is always a time to both reflect and look ahead. I try not to display it here, but I tend to be negatively hard on myself. Reflecting on the past year, my first conclusion is that I failed: I wanted to be able to do chinups by year end and I still can't do a one.
But if I get past my negativity and look at the year more objectively, I see that I didn't truly fail:
- Maintained weight loss for another full year
- Completed several 50-mile events, including one "official" run (McNaughton)
- Many extended hikes, runs or walks of more than 20 miles
- Completed the Michigan C2C adventure race
- Spent more time in the woods, less time on the roads
- Commuted to work via my own power (versus vehicle) more this year than any year prior
- Finally made it to a hiker gathering that I'd been trying to get to for several years -- and I got to meet some cool people in the process
I'm sure there are others I'd put in there, too.
Looking ahead: I haven't yet considered what 2006 might bring for me from a fitness/sports perspective. I'd like to do an adventure race, I know that much. I'd like to do McNaughton again, probably still the 50...I'm not sure I'm mentally prepared for 100. I'd like to do the R2R2R. Other than that, I haven't yet thought out my goals for year.
But as soon as I do, you'll be the first to know!
