“I’m 58 years old and in better shape now than 25 years ago,” Sly Stallone told Men.Com Magazine.  It’s a good thing because Sly has started training for his next movie – “Rocky VI.”  That’s great news for the millions of ‘Rocky’ fans even though it’s been 15 years since the last episode was released.

But Rocky is a timeless story for any generation.

“I thought long and hard about doing another Rocky movie,” Sly told Men.Com Magazine.  “It’s been a while and a lot has happened, but I sincerely believe there’s a story here that needs to be told.

“Rocky’s like everyone else – he’s gotten older, slower but just like you and me, the fire still burns inside of him as fiercely as it did 20 years ago.  He spent his whole life chasing a dream and now mortality is staring him in the face.  Just like all of us.

“The average person lives to be 75.  Multiply that by 52 and that comes out to 3,900 weeks of life.  That’s it.  Then I thought, hell, I’m 58.  Which means I have roughly 884 weekends left.  Damn!  Talk about a wake-up call.

“That helped make up my mind to do Rocky VI.  We all have to face what’s ahead and deal with what we’ve left behind.”

Here’s the opening pages of the script from Sly’s upcoming Rocky VI…

The camera comes to rest on an elevated shot of a large
historical graveyard that overlooks the river.

Rocky Balboa sits on a small stone bench with Paulie.
Both their eyes are heavy with grief as they look down
at a simple headstone that reads:

Adrian Balboa Born March 10, 1950 Died June 11, 2000
PAULIE:  Four years…Time goes by too fast. ROCKY:  (Distantly)… Not fast enough. PAULIE:  Where’s the kid? – He’s late. – He shoulda been here. ROCKY:  (low)It’s all right. PAULIE: Not all right – it’s his mother. ROCKY:  Don’t say nothing, Paulie. ... He kisses the headstone. ROCKY:  I miss you. ...Rocky rises and they move off. PAULIE:  I don’t wanna be gone a lotta hours, all right? ROCKY:  Coupla hours – c’mon, it’s good talkin’ about the old days. PAULIE: (Moving off) Yeah, all right, but sometimes rememberin stuff don’t feel so good. ROCKY:  I think it feels better than forgetting.

“I’ve been fortunate,” Sly told Men.Com Magazine.  “I’ve lived the American dream.  And I’ve learned a few important things along the way.  Pay attention to the really important things in life.  Be the guy who tells the jokes, not the recipient of the punch line.  Be the predator, not the food source.  Gorge yourself at the banquet of life until the only thing left on the table are the crumbs.”

Sly will be sharing excerpts from Rocky VI in upcoming issues of Men.Com Magazine.
